Today, at St. Mary’s Academy, an insightful and compelling awareness seminar was conducted on the topic *Addiction and Cancer – The Hidden Connection*
Students of Classes 10 to 12 were sensitized through an enlightening address by the eminent speaker, *Dr. Umang Mithal*, The Director and Chief Surgical Oncologist, and Robotic Surgeon at Fortis Hospital Noida who graced the session with his profound knowledge.
Dr. Mithal shed light on the irreversible consequences of cancer and the devastating link between addiction and this life-threatening ailment. Quoting that 70% of cancers are preventable, he emphasized that lifestyle disorders, environmental negligence, and unhealthy habits are among the primary causes of cancer today.
He advised students to shun all forms of substance abuse, practice mindfulness, lead disciplined lives, and cherish emotional bonds with family. Highlighting the role of nutrition, exercise, music, and positive social connections, he reiterated that cancer is not merely a disease but a preventable outcome of one’s choices.
The session culminated with a vote of thanks and a token of appreciation presented to Dr. Mittal by our esteemed Principal, Rev. Bro. Anand Elias, whose resolute pursuit to the students’ holistic development—be it mental, emotional, or physical—continues to inspire.
